“Dealmaker” is more than just a job description for Gary, as he is a recipient of the Dealmaker of the Year Award—recognition of substantial success by the Association for Corporate Growth.

Gary directs the Virginia investment team, leading by example. He further shares his knowledge with frequent speaking engagements and professional memberships.

With beginnings in marketing and business development, Gary made his first investment in 1987. His career as a venture capitalist has continued ever since, showing that personal innovation is the key to achieving great results.

General Partner Gary Golding directs Edison's regional investment team in McLean, Virginia. He focuses on investments in the communications and government information technology sectors.

Gary’s concentration is business software. Over his career, Gary has served as the lead investor in multiple companies in the communications software industry, which is heavily concentrated in New Jersey, Maryland and Virginia. He also seeks investments in companies selling technology products to federal, state and local governments.

Gary is a frequent speaker at entrepreneurial events and financing seminars. He currently serves on the Board of the Tech Council of Maryland and is Chairman of the TCM Capital Formation Forum. The Association for Corporate Growth named Gary Dealmaker of the Year.

Prior Experience

Gary has been a venture capitalist for 21 years, and in that time, has served as a director of 21 companies.

Before joining Edison in 1997, Gary co-founded the CEO Venture Fund, a firm launched in Pittsburgh by three successful technology entrepreneurs. As General Partner and Chief Operating Officer of CEO Venture Fund II, Gary managed the firm's office in Vienna, Virginia, and made his first investment in the Greater Washington region in 1987. Gary started his career in marketing and business development after an internship at Penn SouthWest in Pittsburgh.

Gary served on the Advisory Boards of the George Washington University Graduate School of Business, Governor's Venture Capital Roundtable for the Commonwealth of Virginia and the Entrepreneurial Advisory Council of the Pennsylvania Securities Commission. He was President of the Pittsburgh Venture Capital Association, and as a founding member, served as an officer for the Pittsburgh High Technology Council for 13 years.
